Technical Publications Manager
Job description
The Technical Publications Manager will be responsible for managing the activities of the Technical Writing staff, and for managing the preparation, production, and reproduction of product technical publications for product release cycles
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plans, schedules, assigns, and reviews work of Technical Writing team.
Mentors writers in learning the technology, tools, processes as well as improving their writing skills.
Guides writers to plan, write, and deliver various types of product assistance documentation including release notes, issue lists, various types of guides (including admin, user, and configuration guides).
Sets and maintains publication standards.
Gives feedback and writes performance reviews of technical writing team.
Bachelors or Masters degree in Language/Literature, Engineering, or Science.
15+ years of technical writing experience in a software product development company with at least 3-5 years in people management.
Excellent mentoring skills with specialized knowledge in technical writing.
Ability to coach the staff to handle tasks and challenges with a solution-oriented approach and staying focused on meeting or exceeding customer expectations.
Ability to write for a highly technical audience (engineers, technicians, and implementers).
Thorough understanding of technical writing processes and new-age writing concepts.
Familiarity with standard style guides and their recommendations, including DITA concepts and minimalistic forms of writing.
Familiarity with various delivery formats.
Ability to exercise judgment to determine appropriate action.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build and maintain productive relationships, cross-functionally, locally and globally to gain cooperation of others.
Ability to work independently and be a self-starter.
Demonstrated ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced, multi-tasking development environment
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Able to effectively develop materials that are appropriate for the audience
Strong presentation skills. Able to effectively present and defend point of view to a variety of audiences.
Excellent knowledge of traditional as well newer content/help authoring and publishing tools, such as MadCap Flare, browser-based tools and versioning mechanisms.
Sound knowledge of HTML5, CSS, and JavaScript.
Excellent knowledge of task management tools such as JIRA and collaboration tools like Confluence.
