Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Global Application Team Leader, the Senior Documentation Specialist creates, maintains, and manages all technical information related documentation including operating manuals, service manuals, training material, and sales & marketing literature.
Essential Functions:Technical Documentation, Content Management, New Product Development, Technical Writing
· Collaborate with engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, and applications) to develop a technical understanding of products, systems, and processes. Apply technical writing skills to translate that knowledge into technical documents/instructions written to be understood by all segments of the industry.
· Create and maintain product catalogs of industrial refrigeration and gas compression equipment, for use in sales, applications, and technical service, by employees and customers, including application guidelines, specifications, and additional technical materials for the promotion, selection and application of equipment.
· Create and maintain parts and service manuals for use in installation, operation, maintenance and service of industrial refrigeration and gas compression equipment and parts, by employees and customers.
· Collaborate on the creation of Custom Engineering Manuals for ETO orders. Help develop functional descriptions and spare parts lists when needed Supports new product development and commercialized products
· Provide technical information to Marketing to create case study articles demonstrating the capabilities and applications of products for the promotion of company products and customers.
· Gather and provide all necessary technical information for product brochures and literature. Review all literature for technical correctness before it is released.
· Create training materials, in coordination with the Services Director, for use in engineering, application and service training programs, for employees, engineers, contractors and service technicians.
Leadership Responsibilities:
The Technical Documentation Specialist has no direct reports, but will lead a cross-functional group, including sales and marketing, R&D and project / production engineers and service technicians, to gather information and drive consensus on the information required in all technical documents.
· Proven ability to collect technical information from diverse resources, and produce clear, concise, and easy-to-read documents in the appropriate media
· Proven ability to collect information and create effective communications in the appropriate media
· Bachelor's degree required, preferably with major in Engineering, Communications or Technical Writing. A minor in the Sciences minor (Electrical preferred)
· Seven or more years of experience in a related field
· Experience utilizing Windows-based computer desktop publishing software
· Excellent English communication skills - not limited to writing abilities. Must be able to effectively and proactively communicate questions and needs to subject matter experts and escalate issues to management for prompt resolution
· Knowledge of content management systems/ principles is preferred
· Understanding and use of special software applications including:
o Desktop publishing software (Interleaf / Quick Silver, Adobe Frame Maker, Word)
o Language translation software (Systran)
· High quality PDF creation software (Adobe Acrobat Professional).
