The Opportunity
“Bring your passion for learning new and emerging technologies to FICO where you’ll be part of an innovative product team with hands-on access to the product.Our Technical Writers create documentation deliverables for leading edge software products deployed in Cloud, SaaS, ASP, and hosted environments. The deliverables may include installation guides, user guides, API reference guides, tutorials, examples, videos, and blogs.” – Director, Technical Publications
What You’ll Contribute
- Proactively learn about the FICO products to which you are assigned.
- Research, write, and edit documentation deliverables.
- Coordinate the production and handoff of all final deliverables.
- Author technical notes for the knowledge base.
- Frequently interact with Product Managers, Development, and QA teams, subject-matter experts, and the Technical Publications team. Interaction is both scheduled and ad hoc in our iterative development environment.
- Work with other technical writers across FICO to look for ways to continually improve our processes and procedures.
- Review documents and follow the steps in the document to verify/validate it.
- Gain good understanding of product and its actors/users. Develop document based on usage of different users.
- Define appropriate documentation deliverables to meet the requirements.
- Develop processes and task estimates that reflect efficient methods for deliverables to be produced within required timelines.
- Proactively explore architectural and platform issues relevant to the products, and provide technical assistance to team members and internal clients as needed.
- Contribute to customer/Profession Service/Sales queries on jive and consolidate the queries to blogs and FAQs
- Ultimately own the quality of the deliverables, and ensure that all customer facing documents meet the expected and required levels of quality and are delivered on agreed schedule.
What We’re Seeking
- BA/BS degree in Technical Writing, English or Computer Science.
- Solid technical writing or software development experience, or the equivalent combination of work experience and education—all candidates will be asked to provide writing samples.
- Proven ability with English spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and composition rules and a clear business/technical writing style.
- Familiarity an object-oriented programming language.
- Familiarity with XML and HTML is a plus.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Proven ability to document software components, APIs, and use cases.
- Experience using XMetal.
- Experience in developing video based tutorials will be a plus.
- Expertise in developing Help Documents.
- Extensive hands-on exposure of implementing Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA) structured authoring technology for online and printed documentation deliverables.
- Basic understanding of Cloud based development concepts. Concepts of API (REST, SOAP), Database, Configuration is a plus
- Demonstrated competencies and physical, mental, & interpersonal skills.
- Working with minimum supervision. Self-driven and looking for ways to work around hurdles
- Experience in Product documentation and exposure to Financial domain will be preferred.
